Women are preparing nurseries for a range of vegetables, including traditional and indigenous varieties that have long been part of local diets. By encouraging women to grow these crops at household level, Kopito Women Foundation is supporting communities to bring nutritious and culturally important foods back to the family table. Once the seedlings are strong enough, they will be transplanted into kitchen and vegetable gardens, where women will continue caring for them through watering, mulching, weeding, and other environmentally friendly farming practices. These gardens may be small, but their impact can be significant. A well-managed vegetable garden can provide families with fresh food, reduce dependence on purchased vegetables, improve household nutrition, and create opportunities for women to generate income from surplus produce.
