About us

Who We Are

Founded in 2014 by ten visionary women in Nkareta Ward, Narok County, Kenya, Kopito Women Foundation is a registered, non-political self-help group dedicated to improving the socio-economic status of Maasai women and their communities. Our name, "Kopito," reflects the Maasai word for a rope—a symbol of resilience, utility, and connection in our daily lives.

Despite efforts by the Kenyan government, poverty remains a significant challenge for Maasai women in rural Narok County, exacerbated by global warming, limited access to education, and inadequate healthcare services. These factors contribute to chronic poverty, teenage pregnancies, and early marriages. Kopito Women Foundation exists to address these challenges through capacity building, advocacy, and sustainable development.
